Presenting online

Impact over your webcam

More and more of our presentations happen online. Covid-19 accelerated the trend, but the transition will continue, lockdown or no lockdown.

Presenting online creates a new set of challenges - how can you hold attention, make an impact, and inspire change when you're just another face on the screen? How can you read the room if you're staring into your webcam.

Presenting online strips away many of the communication techniques that you might deploy face-to-face - you can't walk the room, you can't make much use of body language, and you can't stare at a particular person.

It's also hard to tell how it's landing. Face-to-face, you can watch the real-time impact of your presentation unfold on the listeners' faces. Online, you don't really know if they love it or hate it.
